OneQuantum Africa - connecting the local community to the global quantum ecosystem
Join us for an exciting conversation with Shahar Keinan this week, where we discuss the combination of Physics (Quantum Computing), Biology (Genetics), and Chemistry (Molecular drugs) to create designs, build IP, and change the way new drugs are currently developed.
“At PBQ, we identified quantum computing as a technology at an inflection point that can dramatically reduce the cost and time it takes to develop new drugs.” Dr. Keinan.
This event is FREE and open to all.
All our events are great places to make new friends, so please invite your quantum tech colleagues and sign up for the one-on-one networking cocktail to connect with other attendees and our speakers.
Last week I had an opportunity to attend the CUbit Seminar Series where William D. Oliver of MIT presented a talk on the demonstration of “giant artificial atoms” realized with superconducting qubits in a waveguide QED architecture.
I had a brief chat with Will about quantum in Africa, music, and life - he is a lot of fun, and I should say we had a pretty good time.
Thanks to Philip Makotyn and the team for putting this together.
I would love to hear from you about the promise of quantum technologies in Africa.
Which areas do you think we need to focus on to adequately prepare for a quantum future?
I am hoping to see most of you this Wednesday!
Farai Mazhandu | President | OneQuantum Africa

📢 Important Announcements
Women in Quantum VI
Our Women in Quantum chapter and Denise Ruffner could not be more excited to share that the sixth WIQ summit will be in person and co-hosted together with QC Ware Corp. in December 2021.
Join this awesome community in Santa Clara, California for talks, networking, a career fair, and more targeted at women in quantum and everybody else who is curious about this spooky science and its applications.
❤️ Want to join in person in CA?
💚 Want to be a speaker?
🧡 Want to hire amazing talent?
💛 Want to sponsor WIQ?
Reach out to Denise or brooke@onequantum.org.
⚠️to stay up to date and RSVP when registrations open sign up for the WIQ newsletter at https://lnkd.in/epRrY57
Portions of WIQ (not Q2B) will be live-streamed for those who cannot join in person. Q2B attendees need to register separately with WIQ to attend.
IEEE Quantum Week 2021
OneQuantum Chairman André M. König and Women in Quantum President Denise Ruffner will be speaking about diversity in Quantum Computing at IEEE Quantum Week 2021 | October 17–22, 2021
Quantum Quest training program
The University of Amsterdam andQuSoft are organizing The Quantum Quest training program in collaboration with Quantum Leap Africa. The program is a web/online class for high school and first-year university students with an interest in mathematics and computing. It is a five-week educative, interactive course with facilitators/teaching assistants to guide students all through the program. The program is also designed as an adventure to learn the basics of quantum computing. At the end of it, you will be able to understand what quantum bits and quantum algorithms are and why they are important.
The students, at the completion of the program, shall be awarded certificates.
The program shall start in November 2021.
Eligibility criteria
High-Level Knowledge in math subjects
Currently attending high school /first year at University
Between ages 16-20 years
Azure Quantum Credits
Applications are now open for the new Azure Quantum Credits program. This program is intended to help enable research and commercial impact with quantum hardware from Honeywell Quantum Solutions and IonQ today through the Azure Quantum ecosystem. In applying to the Azure Quantum Credits program, you may receive up to $10,000 of credits to use on Azure Quantum partner hardware. We will be awarding a limited number of credit grants, so be sure to get your applications in early. You can apply for Azure Quantum Credits by filling out and submitting an application form.
