Dear all:
On behalf of OneQuantum Africa, I am pleased to announce Lorraine T Majiri as our new Chapter President for Africa. She replaces me (Farai Mazhandu), and I will assume a new position as Senior Advisor. I sincerely believe that we need to help create a new generation of visionary leaders in Africa, and I am so proud of the 'dream team' we have in place and are continually expanding.
Lorraine is a noted face in the global quantum community through her efforts at QWorld, OneQuantum Zimbabwe, FE’STEM, and many other initiatives. She has done great work in these few years and has immense popularity in the continent. I admire her charismatic personality, leadership, energy, and organizing skills, which will surely be fruitful for the future of tech in Africa. I am not surprised that she was highly recommended by the community, our local chapter presidents, and the OneQuantum leadership.
The best days for quantum in Africa are yet to come and I look forward to contributing to this effort in my new role.
Help me to extend a kindly hearty welcome to our new President!
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Farai | Senior Advisor | OneQuantum Africa
And a couple more important announcements 👇🏾👇🏾
OneQuantum Africa is part of the First International Network to tackle global challenges with quantum sensor technology.
Congratulations to OneQuantum Africa, especially the team from Zimbabwe led by Lorraine Majiri (OneQuantum Zimbabwe), Dr. Cloud Nyamhere (HOD@MSU), Ms. Rebecca Chimheno (Lecturer@CUT) for being participants in the First International Network set up to tackle global challenges with quantum sensor technology.
"The International Network for Sensor and Timing Applications in Quantum Technologies (INSTA-QT), which has received £500,000 in EPSRC funding, has partnered with scientists in 12 countries, including Angola, Germany, and Zimbabwe, to establish Global Virtual Workshops, which will each be specific to the different global challenges, which are: no poverty, zero hunger; good health and wellbeing; climate action; clean water and sanitation and sustainable cities and communities. All involved centers will work together to take a strategic approach in linking problem areas to carefully considered solutions, with the advantage of collaborating across a collectively large number of experts across a very wide geographical breadth."
Project partners include BAE Systems University of Nottingham British Geological Survey Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB Osservatorio Etneo - Catania Kinemetrics, Inc. Q-CTRL Sydney Water Vexlum Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt
There are enormous challenges and abundant opportunities for Africa amid the rising climate crisis, and this is an excellent platform for organizations, researchers, and enthusiasts to learn, collaborate, and exchange.
Everyone is welcome; OneQuantum Africa platforms are FREE and OPEN to everyone on our continent, and we encourage you to reach out to us with your goals.
