OneQuantum Africa ideas, news, and updates
OneQuantum Africa Weekly Meetings | Melanie Hardman, Product Manager - Quantum Technologies, National Physical Laboratory, UK | June 9 @ 1500hrs CAT
This week we reflect on the use of technology as a valuable tool to promote social change. A technology-driven approach to progress is usually short-sighted and set to provide limited benefits or result in unintended negative consequences.
Quantum technologies promise to have a widespread impact with vast social, economic, and political consequences. It is imperative that as we evaluate quantum tech solutions, we don’t only do that using technical criteria (such as efficiency, speed-up, etc) but we go further and look at the broader consequences.
Communities like OneQuantum are very important platforms to ensure that we figure out the best approach to harness these consequential new technological capabilities.
Andre has done a detailed and personal piece on why it is crucial that we provide support to everyone interested in learning more about quantum technologies.
OneQuantum Africa Weekly Meetings
On June 9th at 1500hrs CAT, we are glad to host Melanie Hardman, Product Manager - Quantum Technologies, at the National Physical Laboratory, UK.
Melanie has been working in commercially focused roles within the life science (and now quantum) sector for over 20 years. After obtaining an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and then Ph.D. in Microbiology, Melanie’s serious career path started out providing technical support for the bioinformatics software she used during her studies. This evolved into the technology transfer of discoveries from cancer research for a large UK charity to joining NPL in 2017 as a product manager.
She enjoys talking to customers to understand their problems and challenging the status quo at all times.
When not navigating the topsy turvy world of quantum, you’ll often find Melanie sailing her boat on the River Thames, cycling up hills, and exploring the UK in her converted DHL campervan Jauney.
Her talk will be on the topic, "From Biochemistry To Quantum – An Unexpected Journey."
Please invite your quantum tech colleagues.
This promises to be a great discussion.
Join us for the cocktail party after the meeting at 1600hrs CAT for one on one networking.
See you at OneQuantum Africa where we build strong local communities connected to a global quantum tech ecosystem.
Have a great week!
