OneQuantum Africa news, ideas and updates
Quantum computing educational materials + Reverse Annealing on Portfolio optimization problems 3/24 @1900hrs SAST
Thank you all for the support during the recent Women in Quantum Summit IV. It was a success by all metrics (CLICK HERE TO VIEW) and we couldn't have done it without all our sponsors and the community.
Ideas and updates
OneQuantum Africa value proposition
We currently have an active community with weekly meetings, technical and product presentations, an online community, and some virtual assets relevant to the quantum tech ecosystem. All of which we are always expanding and improving.
Most notably, we offer:
Mentoring: A 3 months program on soft-skills around how to build competencies in quantum, identify a career in quantum, best apply for open opportunities, be successful in a workplace, etc
We currently do this for 13 women in the WIQ chapter, free of charge and we recently partnered with Keysight Technologies
Stipends: We offer stipends to students, postdocs, or interns in Africa that are looking to make a career in quantum tech to support them financially as they transition into it
Summit: Similar to our highly successful Women in Quantum Summit we are organizing Africa Quantum Summits this year
Career and Education Fair: Similar to our WIQ chapter, we are organizing 3 - 4 career and education fairs with international institutions, vendors and startups for African students and job seekers in Quantum
You can always share your feedback on how the community can work best for you here
After hearing from various experts on different aspects and categories of quantum technologies and their potential, we shifted gear last week and heard from Lesedi Modise about considerations on taking quantum products to market in Africa. Despite her business and finance background, she has a strong personal interest in quantum computing for drug discovery specifically HIV/AIDS.
In her talk she also discussed;
Potential for quantum computing in Africa’s economy
Businesses that are likely to invest in quantum first in the continent
High level considerations for quantum entrepreneurs
We will share the recordings soon.
This week, on OneQuantum Africa, we are pleased to host Mert Esencan, a Quantum Developer at a financial services company in the USA. He did undergraduate studies in Symbolic Systems + a Physics double major and has a Master’s in Management Science and Engineering, all from Stanford University.
Mert will lead a conversation on quantum computing educational materials (resources, areas of focus, things to play with, what works, what doesn’t, and so on) and also briefly talk about his research on reverse annealing on portfolio optimization problems.
Register to join us here at 1900hrs SAST on March 24
