OneQuantum Africa...growing the local quantum opportunity
OneQuantum South Africa Event focused on progress in Industrial Research on Quantum Technologies | September 30 | https://www.runtheworld.today/app/invitation/34840
OneQuantum Africa | COMMUNITY | MENTORING | CAREER | PROJECTS
Please help us to welcome three more chapters in our beautiful continent;
OneQuantum Cameroon
OneQuantum Ghana
OneQuantum Rwanda
Our vision is to reach out to every country and university in Africa such that everyone who has an interest in quantum is supported to succeed.
If you are passionate about quantum and want to make quantum technology accessible in your local community, get in touch.
OneQuantum is always happy to hear from individuals who would like to open new chapters in all countries or regions, as well as volunteers and partners to help us expand and improve our efforts.
Get in touch via brooke@onequantum.org and share your goals.
A quick note to attract your attention to the community event at OneQuantum South Africa featuring the following great speakers:
Dr. Ismail Akhalwaya, a Research Scientist at IBM Research South Africa, will kick off the event with a talk about Quantum Computing and Quantum Chemistry as potential tools we can harness to solve problems relevant to the continent. Ismail’s work at IBM is primarily in fundamental SKA physics/astronomy research through machine-learning with his current work on Bayesian Interferometry and Unsupervised Machine Learning.; exploring quantum information research and supervise/co-supervise Wits postgraduate students. He is also a Visiting Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at Wits University.
Also featuring a panel discussion with Dr. Celia Merzbacher on the importance of building strong local quantum ecosystems. Celia is an Executive Director at Quantum Economic Development Consortium; QED-C is a consortium of stakeholders that aims to enable and grow the U.S. quantum industry. She has experience working across industry, government, nonprofits, and academia spearheading multidisciplinary R&D in areas of emerging technology, developing public-private partnerships focused on innovation, and establishing programs to grow a diverse STEM workforce.
The business and research ecosystem in Africa is not new to her as she has been involved in various projects in the continent during her time as Assistant Director for Technology R&D in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where she oversaw the establishment and coordination of the National Nanotechnology Initiative. She also served as Executive Director of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).
And more great speakers…
We sign off with our infamous networking where we all have an opportunity to forge new business relationships and friendships.
Keep an eye on the event website HERE to stay up to date.
Please come out to learn, listen and support.
I look forward to connecting with you on September 30!

Battery Camera Developed Using Quantum Technology Launches In Key Milestone For Transport Electrification
The new Battery Current Density Analyser is the first electric vehicle product developed using quantum technology to be made commercially available. The device scans electrical vehicle batteries to check for faults, with the aim of accelerating the development of more efficient, safer, and more reliable batteries. Such developments are crucial to the future efficiency and environmental sustainability of low-carbon vehicles. The Battery Current Density Analyser has been selected for the Government’s U.K. Pavilion stand at Cenex-LVC, showcasing the best British innovations in low-carbon vehicles.
A 15-user quantum secure direct communication network
Quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) based on entanglement can directly transmit confidential information. However, the inability to simultaneously distinguish the four sets of encoded entangled states limits its practical application. This paper explores a QSDC network based on time–energy entanglement and sum-frequency generation. In total,15 users are in a fully connected QSDC network, and the fidelity of the entangled state shared by any two users is >97%.
